CIMMYT Asia Regional Representative and Managing Director, Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA).

A native of India, Dr. Joshi obtained his MS and Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University. A former Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding at Banaras Hindu University is the CIMMYT Asia Regional Representative and Managing Director, Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA). He has research and teaching experience of more than 35 years. Dr. Joshi is a fellow of the three most prestigious science academies in India – the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), the National Academy of Science in India (NASI), and the National Academy of Agriculture Sciences (NAAS). In 2014, he was awarded Jeanie Borlaug Laube WIT Mentor Award from Borlaug Global Rust Initiative, Cornell, USA.

Dr. Joshi has facilitated to development and release of more than four dozen wheat varieties in India and South Asia and has handled largescale seed scaling up programs in various countries. He has made a significant contribution to breeding wheat for climate resilience, disease resistance, conservation agriculture, and Zinc-rich biofortification. He is currently engaged in various collaborations on climate-resilient agriculture and integrated food system. In addition, he has educated thousands of stakeholders and farmers. His research findings are published in 165 refereed journal articles, 9 Books/book chapters, 127 symposia proceedings, and one patent.
